History and interesting facts

Sea buckthorn: The «Shiny Horse» and the sacred fruit of Tibet

  • Etymology and the Greek secret: The Latin name Hippophae translates as «shiny horse». The Greeks noticed that horses grazing in sea buckthorn thickets acquired incredibly glossy coats. The English name sea buckthorn, French argousier, German Sanddorn and Spanish espino amarillo all describe the bright berries that tightly cling to the thorny branches along the coast.
  • The happiness hormone in the bark: The concentration of serotonin in the bark of the sea buckthorn tree is 1000 times higher than in banana pulp. This makes sea buckthorn a powerful natural adaptogen that helps cope with stress.
  • A legend of Alpine nutrition: Sea buckthorn has been prized for centuries from the Baltic shores to the Alpine valleys as a natural biostimulant supporting immunity and recovery.
  • The complete Omega complex: Sea buckthorn is the only berry in the world containing all four types of Omega fatty acids at once: 3, 6, 9 and the rarest Omega-7, which is critically important for tissue regeneration.
  • Frost resistance of the North: The berry withstands frosts down to -40°C, retaining the full richness of vitamins C, E and group B even after freezing. This makes it the true queen of the northern European coastlines.
  • The protector tree (Rare fact): Sea buckthorn roots fix nitrogen from the air, enriching the soil with it. It not only grows itself but also fertilizes the ground for its neighbours, acting as a natural land improver.
  • Global geography and harvest: We supply raw material from ecologically clean regions of the Baltic countries, the North Sea coast and Siberia. Harvest season: August – October. Local processing guarantees the maximum level of carotenoids.
  • Product history: Industrial production of the concentrate began in the 1970s. Modern centrifugal technologies allow us to obtain homogeneous puree with a high content of native sea buckthorn oil.
  • The benefits of seeds (Rare fact): The sea buckthorn pit contains the highest concentration of vitamin E. Fine grinding technology allows us to extract the benefits of the seeds while preserving the perfect smoothness of the puree.
