• Ancient history and origin: The appearance of the orange in human life is rooted in the deep antiquity of Southeast China and dates back about 7,000 years. As a cultivated plant that arose from a natural cross between a mandarin and a pomelo, it has been known for more than 2,500 years.
• Etymology and color: An interesting fact: in English, the color name (orange) came from the name of the fruit, not the other way around. Before that, the orange hue was simply described as "yellow-red". The very word "orange" itself translates from Dutch as "Chinese apple".
• Royal prestige in Europe: In the early 18th century, oranges in Europe were a symbol of the highest luxury. They were grown in the famous Orangerie of Versailles and in the winter gardens of the European nobility, where the ripening fruits were a jewel of the royal table.

• World statistics and leaders: Orange juice is the most popular in the world. As of 2018, global concentrate production amounted to 2.2 million tonnes. Brazil retains the status of a giant, producing 1.1 million tonnes (49% of the market). The USA follows (18.4%), then Mexico (6.4%).
