Transportation of palletized cargo

To ensure the safety of the cargo during loading and unloading operations and transportation, concentrated juices in drums are always supplied on pallets (wooden pallets). This is a global logistics standard that allows the use of forklifts and minimises manual labour.

To prevent the drums from shifting during the movement of a vessel or vehicle, they are rigidly secured. Usually, stretch film (wrapping in several layers) is used for this, as well as metal or strong polyethylene straps. The straps fasten the drums together and pull them to the base of the pallet.

Weight characteristics of one pallet position:

• The net weight of one drum of juice (depending on the density on the Brix scale) ranges from 245 to 265 kg.
• Accordingly, the net weight of the juice on one pallet is about 1000 - 1060 kg.
• Taking into account the weight of the steel drums themselves (about 20 kg each) and the wooden pallet (about 20-25 kg), the total gross weight of one pallet position reaches 1100 - 1160 kg.

It is precisely because of this high weight that when loading 20-foot sea containers, exactly 20 pallets (80 drums) fit into them. Installing pallets in two tiers inside the container requires special attention and compliance with lashing (separation) rules so that the upper tier does not damage the lower one during rolling.
